The MonTrey family become Frey's enemies. They are believers in the Dragon, and Frey's influence over the Warlord is driving a scientific revolution that threatens them and their power base that is supported by the priests of OkutAmmon.
Frey decides that she has to find the truth about the priesthood, and why Dura was committed to the Tower as a child. She decides that she will uncover the tower's secrets and break its power, thereby destroying the influence of the MonTrey family, and avenging Dura. She climbs through the layers of the ancient tower, where she is finds the trapped P'Khang, the Crystal Seers, known as the Oracles, and they trick/deceive/lure her into serving their purpose. The legend of Riyack Ahlmar is conveyed as history, so we learn about Ryan's Kandoarin-origin story. The P'Khang tell Frey that the Petal Sword is a weapon of the as an instrument that will unite Kandoarin under the Warlord, thereby achieving the possibility of defending the lowlands against the ShoTrinar threat. Frey returns to Allion. The MonTreys are executed. |
On a mission to retrieve the Petal Sword from ancient Aerie, and the tower of AmNor, Frey meets and saves the life of Djarak of the ShoTrinar. Together, they retrieve the PetalSword, that Djarak believes will kill the dragon, but Frey is determined to bring back to Allion to ensure the power of Phen Sturr and Kandoarin's scientific revolution.
Frey betrays Djarak, abandoning him to a terrible fate, and returns to Allion with the Petal Sword. But, Phen Sturr d'Allion is murdered by his son, who takes the power of the Petal Sword and becomes the God King. Uses the power of the sword to replace belief in Wroth with his own religion. This spreads across the world and Frey is labeled a heretic and she barely escapes with her life. The forces of the God King of Allion attack khasr, and commit genocide (echoes of the first storm). Frey's people are forced to escape by letting loose the anchors and the Khasrians become a scattered people, a diaspora. Frey realises that the P'Khang had 'seen' this eventuality, and that she had been their instrument, both in the rise of the God King and the destruction of Khasr. She commits her life to thwarting the P'Khang, restoring faith in the Dragon of the Eclipse, and the ancient prophecy that a child of the ancient world will return to kill the sleeping dragon and save Kandoarin. |
